Mrs. McGowan's Class

SHOW and TELL

2008 - 2009

Dear Parents,

Show and Tell is a favorite activity and excellent opportunity for children to speak in class, develop listening skills, and learn about interesting things.  There are many other opportunities to speak in class during the day, so it is an optional activity.

 This year our format will be a little different.  All the children will be able to bring in something each Friday.  The class will be divided into small groups of 4 - 5 children.  This will encourage more conversation about the items being shared and allow additional opportunities for sharing each month.   If your child is absent or “forgets” to bring something, he/she only has to wait a week to bring it in.

 Parents can help select an appropriate item to share and discuss what your child might say.

  • Some Things to Share:  photos, things you made, an item from a collection, special award, how to make or do something, artifact/coins/poster from a trip, or do a book review instead of bringing in an item.  Bring the book to show us, be familiar with the title, author’s name, tell why you liked the book (be specific), read a passage from the book to the class.

          *  Please:
    no toys, Webkinz, DVD’s, videos, CDs, or action figures.

  • Some Things to Tell:  What is it?  How is it made or how did you make it?  How does it work?  Where did it come from?  Where do you keep it?  Why is it special to you and to the class?  What materials did you use?    Who helped you make it?  What else is in this collection?

 Thank you for helping make this an enjoyable learning experience!

                                Sincerely,
                             Mrs. McGowan
